Bada Bing! Stern Rolls Out 'The Sopranos' Pin Game

MELROSE PARK, IL - Stern Pinball Inc. debuted its new flipper game, "The Sopranos," based on the hit, multi-Emmy-winning HBO TV series at the Amusement Trades Exhibition International show in London last month.

Featuring series protagonist Tony Soprano, his immediate family and business "family," as well as the likenesses (and voices) of the actors who portray them, "The Sopranos" challenges players to rise through the ranks to become the Boss. The pin incorporates such elements as the female dancers from the Bada Bing! venue; Tony Soprano's boat, The Stugots; a classic multi-ball feature; a safe that cracks open after being whacked by a ball; and the talking fish from the second season that always jokes around with the player.

Vocal talents heard in the game include Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini), Silvio (Steven Van Zandt) and Carmela Soprano (Edie Falco). The pinball machine also plays the series' widely known theme song, "Woke Up This Morning," during gameplay. Pinball Hall of Fame artist Kevin O'Connor provided the playfield art, while the cabinet and backglass artwork are taken directly from original HBO promotional art.

SPI president Gary Stern called the cable TV show, starting its sixth season, "a great title for a pinball; with the show elements, this game is really fun for all level players. The artwork can only be described as stunning."

Separately, the man and the company were featured in The New York Times Business Day section on Sunday, Jan. 2. The article, "Remember When You Wanted Your Own Ms. Pac-Man?," discussed the growth that the home game market, especially for pinball, has experienced over the past year.
