TOKYO -- Sega Sammy reported that its Japanese-based amusement machine sales and arcade operations "have been doing well and surpassing projections" for the first six months of 2012 ended Sept. 30.

Overall, the company said revenues for the period would be $1.96 billion, lower than earlier forecast of $2.15 billion. Executives blamed the downgrade on weak sales of new consumer videogames.

On the positive side, Sega Sammy said its profits for the first six months of the fiscal year would be $39 million, compared to an earlier forecast of a $26 million loss.

Officials said cuts in overhead for the pachislot and pachinko sector made the difference.
