SPRINGFIELD, IL -- Operator-run video lottery terminals in the Land of Lincoln are expected to go live in the third or fourth quarter of 2012, Illinois Gaming Board spokesman Gene O'Shea has reported. | SEE STORY

O'Shea also confirmed that IGB has awarded a $66.8 million contract for the state's VLT system central computer to Scientific Games. The award was reported earlier by VT. | SEE STORY

O'Shea said IGB is finalizing details of the contract with SciGames and hopes to sign "as soon as possible" but that it would take six months or more to get the system up and running.

Illinois passed the Video Gaming Act in 2009. Some operator, manufacturer and distributor licenses have been issued, but a series of political and procedural issues have delayed full implementation.
