Apriva Vend Cuts Expenses For Washington Vending

SCOTTSDALE, AZ -- Apriva has announced that Washington Vending, which operates snack and beverage machines in office buildings, institutions and hotels throughout the greater Washington, DC, metropolitan area, has deployed the Apriva Vend cashless vending solution to help reduce operating expenses.

Washington Vending employs Apriva Vend in some 70 locations to help mitigate theft, reduce vandalism and increase the company's profitability.

Frustrated by its inability to curb a growing vandalism and theft problem, Washington Vending made the decision to replace coin and bill acceptors in some locations with the Apriva Vend cashless payment solution. The solution combines MEI's credit card payment bezel with Apriva's wireless payment processing and reporting tools. Apriva Vend gives operators a fast, secure and reliable method of accepting card-based transactions at vending machines. As a result, bottlers and operators can leverage the system to increase sales, expand margins and boost profitability.

In the case of Washington Vending, Apriva provides a solution to theft from vending machines and damage associated with break-ins, thus dramatically reducing operating expenses.

"We expected that we might see a small decrease in sales by implementing card-only solutions at these specific locations," said Dickie Korman, a partner in Washington Vending. "But any decrease in sales has been more than made up for by substantially reduced operating expenses. The theft that had occurred at these locations has basically been eradicated. In addition, the switch to cashless has eliminated about 95% of the maintenance problems we've experienced, which were primarily caused by jammed coin mechanisms and faulty bill validators. Fewer maintenance calls plus the elimination of theft certainly helps the bottom line." In addition to its payment-processing capabilities, Apriva Vend provides a number of reporting tools and support services that give Washington Vending the ability to monitor its operations remotely.

"We are seeing that many operators are now finding cashless vending a very cost-efficient tool for tackling a number of issues," explained Bill Clark, executive vice-president and general manager of Apriva's Point of Sale (POS) division. "Operators like Washington Vending find that cashless vending makes the most sense as a means to reduce operating costs, while others feel that it is most useful for increasing revenue. And, of course, we speak with many operators who have deployed cashless vending for both the sales lift and cost savings. Clearly, the ability to solve multiple business challenges makes cashless vending even more attractive."

Founded in 1999, Apriva is a leading provider of end-to-end wireless transactions and secure information messaging solutions that meet the exacting security and reliability requirements of financial services providers, government entities and public service sectors.
