August 16, 2005: Betson To Open Chicago Branch; 'Big Buck Hunter Professional'; Carrara Exits Lazer-Tron For Pace-O-Matic; IT, Valley-Dynamo Summits; UltraCade, Tecway Pact For Redemption; ESPN-TV Spotlights NDA Championship

BENSENVILLE, IL - Betson Distributing will open a new Chicago area-distributorship in early October; it is expected to be fully operational by Nov. 1, according to Betson Enterprises president Bob Geschine. The full service distribution center will provide equipment, parts, service and financing under the direction of Todd Cravens. The branch will be located at the former NSM America facility in Bensenville, IL, which Geschine said makes the location close to developers, such as Betson's partner Raw Thrills, to further encourage synergies between distribution and Betson's manufacturing processes and requirements. An existing parts facility in nearby Roselle will move into the new Bensenville facility, he added.

CARLSTADT, NJ , "Big Buck Hunter Professional," the latest in a successful series of hunting-themed video gun games, will debut at AMOA International Expo 2005 (Sept. 14-16, Las Vegas). Tentatively slated for November release, the game is not scheduled for home release, making it a "unique to coin-op" experience. Officials from developer Play Mechanix, publisher Raw Thrills, and manufacturer Betson Enterprises said a three-day test in a Chicago-area tavern generated strong earnings. In addition to the same hardware platform seen on Raw Thrills' "The Fast and the Furious," the game includes a separate PCB that recalibrates the gun's relationship to the environment thousands of times per second , resulting, officials said, in what may be the industry's most accurate gun firing simulation yet. New animals, better animation and a new head-to-head competitive mode are included.

NORCROSS, GA , Ron Carrara, formerly of Cadillac Jack/Lazer-Tron, has accepted a position as vice-president and general manager with Pace-O-Matic Inc., a video gaming software design company headed by CEO Mike Pace (founder of U.S. Games, which he sold in 1996). Carrara may be reached for now at his home office, tel. (678) 417-6366' Separately it was announced that Cadillac Jack's booth at the upcoming Sept. 14-16 AMOA Expo will display eight-liners made in China by a new company, Surfnote, which has been launched by Bil Liusian, CEO of Billabs Corp. Individual regional distributors will be appointed throughout the Americas, said Liusian.

Nearly 100 operators descended on the Mohegan Sun Resort and Casino in Uncasville, CT, in early August to attend Incredible Technologies' fourth Operator Summit. IT emphasized the importance of making players feel comfortable with using a credit card for I.D. purposes, and outlined a forthcoming update for "Golden Tee Live," which offers a variety of videos and visual cues to emphasize security and dependability, along with the many benefits for playing online.
'A total of 15 distributors and 11 operators from the U.S. and Canada convened Aug. 1-3 at the Gaylord Opryland Texas Hotel & Convention Center in Grapevine, near downtown Dallas, for the 2005 Distributor-Operator Council sponsored by manufacturer Valley-Dynamo Limited Partnership. The event was termed an outstanding success by VDLP officials.

SAN JOSE, CA , UltraCade Technologies has entered into an exclusive partnership with Tecway Development Co. Ltd of Taiwan. Under the agreement, UltraCade will be the exclusive distributor of Tecway's products in North America. Tecway will also work with UltraCade in developing the next generation of UltraCade's products for the family market, beginning with a redemption version of its popular "Breeders' Cup" video horse racing game. UltraCade will showcase four initial redemption games at the upcoming AMOA Expo.

LAS VEGAS , TV promotion of the amusements industry took a giant leap forward Aug. 3 as the 14th annual National Championships of the American Darters Association was shown to millions of viewers on ESPN's SportsCenter. As part of a special summer series called "50 States in 50 Days," the SportsCenter show created a one-hour broadcast that showed darts competitions on Shelti "Cougar Eye 2" soft-tip dart machines and on AmberBock (Anheuser-Busch brand) steel-tip bristle dartboards. "I'm pleased to report ESPN treated our sport with the respect it deserves," said ADA president Glenn Remick. "They are a first-class act." The ADA finals took place at the Riviera Hotel & Casino from Aug. 3-7, drawing some 1,000 members and guests. Sponsored by Michelob, AmberBock and Coca-Cola, the competition was run smoothly and efficiently by just five ADA staffers utilizing a proprietary software program to schedule matches.
