CONCORDVILLE, PA -- New from Southco is a streamlined electronic key system designed to operate any of the company's electromechanical locks. It is programmable for various access privileges across a large number of enclosures.
The system consists of a key fob that contains a programmable "iButton" from Maxim Integrated Products, a reader and a controller. Southco reports that users can quickly and easily program, add or delete keys without the need for external software. A "sleep" mode allows the system to draw minimal power when not actually in use, making it ideal for battery operation.
The key fob incorporates a durable, waterproof stainless-steel shell that protects the "iButton" controller. The fob itself can be supplied in custom colors and imprinted logotypes. In use, the Southco electronic key can accommodate as many as 280 trillion codes, the company reported.
