Rock-Ola Doubles Sales Projection For New 'Vivo' CD Wall Jukeboxes

Marcus Webb

TORRANCE, CA - Rock-Ola Manufacturing Corp. reports that its new "Vivo" wallmount jukebox is selling at twice the rate originally projected. President John Schultz said that many RMC distributors have reordered repeatedly during the past quarter, some as often as every two weeks.

Schultz attributed this swift success to a void in the wall jukebox market, which the new "Vivo" (Spanish for "I live") is filling. He cited its vivid graphics, clear sound and light weight (160 lbs.) as principal selling-points.

Full-width translucent glass forming the upper and lower front panels displays a red-orange color spectrum plus a rainbow of accent colors, ranging from yellow through purple. The panels are brilliantly backlit by a custom-designed fluorescent lighting system with efficient electronic ballast. And a wide window in the top panel displays six CD album jackets.

Green buttons on the central panel turn the CD album-jacket pages left or right, display hits, and reset the selection. Illuminated red and orange buttons provide music track selection. A green LED display indicates "selection now playing" and other information. The controls are highlighted by a surrounding multicolored decal.

Rock-Ola's signature "Digi-Trac" disc selector mechanism is visible through a window in the lower panel. The selector's moving multicolored "tower" is styled like a small jukebox with glowing red highlights. It puts on an animated show, gliding to the desired CD in the horizontal rack, then deploying its gripping arm to lift and play the desired selection.

"Vivo" is the first Rock-Ola wall jukebox to feature the company's state-of-the-art "Digital SyberSonic" sound system, which is about half the size and substantially lighter than its predecessor. The integrated two-channel power amplifier provides 450W. of stereo sound to two external speakers, and an auxiliary digital amplifier can be added to power two additional speakers.

The "DSS" feature set includes advanced digital signal processors controlling volume, left/right balance, and the operation of two onboard seven-band equalizers. A two-zone paging system is designed to work with virtually any microphone, and the DSPs provide automatic gain control.

"DSS" also provides for remote control over wires or an infrared link, and for selection input from Rock-Ola "Wallette" booth wallboxes or countertop selectors. Operators can link one or a dozen "Wallettes" to a single "Vivo."

Designed for efficient route service, "Vivo" offers complete accessibility to the 100-CD rack, album jacket display, "DigiTrac" mechanism, all "DSS" components, and the coinbox and bill stacker.

"Vivo" also supports Rock-Ola's new "Get Connected" program, which optionally provides 100% online remote management (see V/T, June).

Measuring a compact 42 ins. high X 26 ins. wide X 16.5 ins. deep, the "Vivo" is supplied with a bill validator from MEI, with a 700-note stacker. The adjacent coin mechanism accepts SBA and Sacagawea $1 coins as well as quarters.
