Columbus Data Services Forms CMS Unit, Launches Cashless Vending System

DALLAS -- Columbus Data Services has announced the formation of Columbus Merchant Services, a point-of-sale business unit that has announced the availability of a cashless vending program.

CMS Cashless Vending is a payments solution engineered to enable vending retailers to offer card acceptance as an additional payment method at vending machines. According to CMS, it can serve as a single source for an operator’s entire cashless vending requirements, including hardware, software, wireless communications and state-of-the-art security. In use, it is said to deliver online, real-time card acceptance and electronic transaction capture; standard features include card-and-cash settlement and reconciliation, cash payment tracking and machine-based enterprise merchant reporting.

Designed for easy installation in almost any vending machine, the system supports machine status monitoring to maximize vender uptime, as well as DEX data transmission for improved route management. It offers comprehensive reporting, including deposits, settlement and reconciliation, and provides an audit trail for cash transactions by reporting and tracking both card and cash sales.

The company pointed out that cashless vending offers many advantages to operators as well as vending patrons. It removes a barrier to sales by giving consumers an alternative payment method. Also boosting per-machine profitability is the encouragement that cashless capability gives to purchasing higher-priced vending products. Cashless purchases reduce cash handling requirements, and the CMS system improves cashflow through daily funding.

CMS Cashless Vending offers direct delivery of files to the operator’s back office, and is said to ensure secure transactions by encrypting card transaction data from the machine to the CMS gateway.
