TAMPA, FL -- Suncoast Coffee Service and Vending is working to enhance the lives and careers of its staff by offering employees a bonus of $50 for reading a book each month. Called Making People Better, or MPB, it is one of a number of initiatives undertaken by the company on behalf of its personnel.
The MPB program is conducted by a committee of employees who select a suitable book every month. The chosen works either are motivational or devoted to a theme appropriate to the business. The company purchases and gives the books as gifts to all its employees; those who read their copy within the month receive the $50 bonus.
Suncoast chief executive Robert Kantor explained that the object of the program is to enable people to become better employees, better spouses and better parents. "It's just one thing we have in place to improve our company culture, build a positive workplace and create overall happiness for our employees," he said.
The Making People Better office reading program has been in place for several months. The books chosen so far include Delivering Happiness by Tony Hsieh, The Fred Factor by Mark Sanborn, and The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz.
Suncoast Coffee Service and Vending reports that it "is not participating in the recession." The company also offers its employees a free healthy lunch program, family retreats and a variety of educational and volunteer opportunities.
Suncoast was established in 2003 with one vending machine. Today, it provides office refreshment services as well as snack, beverage and fresh-food vending to an extensive clientele in the greater Tampa-St. Petersburg market area including Clearwater, Lakeland and Plant City, and Sarasota and Bradenton.
