PHILADELPHIA -- Aramark's new CampusDish mobile application helps college students make informed meal selections by using their smartphones.
The app is available for free download from the iPhone, iPad and Android stores. Students can use it to search for meals meeting specific nutritional criteria. If a student is looking for a meal with less than 500 calories or less than 10g. fat, for instance, he or she can input the information into the app and quickly view which menu items are being served and where they are available.
In addition to posting the nutrition content for the menu items being offered, the new app allows students to submit feedback about the dining program, offer suggestions and ask questions. They can also share information with friends with single clicks.
Aramark's most recent survey of 120,000 students at the more than 600 colleges and universities it serves in North America found that 75% of them consider themselves healthy. Nearly two-thirds review nutrition labels to help select their meals, and more than 50% prefer to go online to locate nutritional information.
