AVT Says Its Marley Coffee Vending Machine Is Ready To Fill Rubi Void

CORONA, CA -- Vending machine and kiosk maker AVT Inc. is capitalizing on Outerwall's discontinuation of its Rubi coffee vending business. AVT claims that its Marley Coffee kiosk is now the most recognizable brand in the industry, and that its branded coffee machine has a clear path for growth with the Rubi vender out of the way.

Outerwall, formerly Coinstar and parent of DVD rental automation giant Redbox, announced in June 2012 its partnership with Seattle's Best Coffee to deploy a gourmet coffee vending machine. Rubi was supposed to operate in grocery, drug and mass merchant retail channels -- the same locations where its Coinstar coin-counters and Redbox kiosks are placed. Rubi would have been maintained by Outerwall's nationwide service organization.

AVT founder and chairman Shannon Illingworth said AVT's business model for Marley Coffee machines is different from Outerwall's Rubi strategy. "We allow individual entrepreneurs to get involved and take ownership of territories," Illingworth said. He added that AVT's machines will benefit from the "strength" of the Marley brand.

Marley Coffee Inc. and AVT in April 2012 entered a licensing partnership through which the Corona, CA-based developer of automated retailing systems creates high-end Marley-branded specialty coffee vending machines. | SEE STORY

"As a technology-driven company, we are well positioned to respond to market changes and opportunities," Illingworth said. "Now, the opportunity for Marley Coffee kiosks has never been better."
