WINNIPEG, MB, Canada -- A vending machine with a novel twist is building excitement around the grand opening of the first Ikea store here.
A touchscreen display, mounted to the machine, prompts each patron to use an Allen key -- provided by an onsite Ikea representative -- to turn a bolt on the machine. The action triggers the vender to randomly dispense free candy or Ikea gift card.
The Ikea machine will move to different locations around the city, leading up to the Swedish furniture giant's grand opening in Winnipeg on Nov. 28.
The vender was developed by Dayton, OH-based Innovative Vending Solutions, whose specialty is customizing vending machines for use in novel promotional applications. A tweet-activated machine is among its many recent innovations. | SEE STORY
