VALLEY VIEW, OH -- Shaffer Distributing Co. has named Doug Schudel as the recipient of its Bernard C. Flynn Devotion Award. Schudel has worked for Shaffer for more than seven years; he previously served with Cleveland Coin and Monroe Distributing during his 31-year coin-op career.

In making the presentation, sales and marketing vice-president Scott Shaffer explained that the award is given infrequently, and that it takes a special person to be chosen for it. The award is named after an early and sterling Shaffer employee, who began as a shipping clerk in 1946 for the Shaffer Music Co. Before retiring in 1980, Flynn had worked in Shaffer's parts, service and sales divisions, became a branch and general manager, and ultimately was named executive vice-president.

Like Flynn, Schudel has devoted his time and energy to Shaffer and its customers with respect, loyalty and commitment, the company reported; he always communicates with clients punctually and completes tasks accurately and precisely. Shaffer Distributing added that Schudel did not receive the award on the basis of his work alone, but also for his positive attitude and personality.

Schudel presently works in Shaffer's Valley View office. An active member of the community, he has been a Boy Scout leader for 24 years, serving as assistant Scoutmaster and Districts Advancement Chairman. In the latter role, he has helped more than 300 Scouts with the final steps to attaining Eagle status. He and his wife also serve with Crossroads, a counseling service, and he has donated some 14 gallons of blood over the years.

"Shaffer is fortunate and proud to count Doug Schudel as one of its most valued employees," the distributorship summed up.

The winner of the Bernard C. Flynn Devotion Award embodies Shaffer's belief system, getting the job done correctly the first time, going the extra mile and paying close attention to detail. Previous recipients are Chuck Ropke in 2001 and Paul Westbrock in 2005.
