OAKVILLE, ON, Canada -- Reunion Island Coffee said it has committed to using only Rainforest Alliance-certified coffee beans for its flavored coffees.
The Canadian roaster's Rainforest Alliance-certified flavors include banana cream, Bavarian chocolate, butter pecan, chocolate chip cookie, chocolate raspberry, French caramel, French vanilla and Irish cream, along with Makin' Me Crazy, maple cream, S'mores, Snicker Doodle, tiramisu, vanilla hazelnut cream and pumpkin spice. Several flavors are also available in decaffeinated versions.
Certified coffees meet the Rainforest Alliance's standards for ecosystem conservation, wildlife protection, and fair treatment and good working conditions on coffee farms.
"Close to half of our portfolio of coffees carry the Rainforest Alliance certification and that number is only getting larger," said Adam Pesce, Reunion Island's director of coffee. "I've seen first hand the effect Rainforest Alliance has had on coffee-growing regions around the world, both from an economic and sustainability standpoint."
