SCOTTSDALE, AZ, -- Apriva has been awarded a U.S. patent for its methods that support highly secure encryption technologies for mobile endpoints, which includes specialized government devices and iOS and Android smartphones and tablets.

According to Randolph Best, Apriva's chief technology officer, wireless devices that roam both domestically and internationally encounter situations in which carriers change Internet Protocol (IP) addresses through ad hoc reassignments and Network Address Translations (NAT).

Since many endpoint encryption components operate best with fixed IP addresses, the dynamic IP environment found in today's 3G and 4G wireless networks can cause certain encryption components to fail.

Apriva's encapsulation techniques -- defined in patent No. 8,627,061 -- enable more high-assurance encryption options and, as a result, deliver higher reliability for continuous and secure operations across multiple commercial wireless carrier networks.

Apriva currently holds 14 patents with 70 additional patents pending in U.S. and foreign offices. Its portfolio includes technology relating to the development, deployment and management of mobile device applications and secure communications, identity management and payment transactions.
