Technomic: Coffee, Tea Consumption On Upswing

CHICAGO – Coffee and tea are top beverage choices for the majority of U.S. adult consumers, according to new market research from Technomic Inc.

Sixty percent of consumers polled for Technomic's "Market Intelligence Report: Coffee and Tea" reported drinking regular hot coffee or tea within the past month, second only to the 62% who had non-diet carbonated soft drinks during the same time period.

Survey results also found 14% of consumers are purchasing more regular hot coffee today than they did two years ago, and 10% say the same about iced tea by the cup or glass.

When it comes to tea, 73% of consumers prefer antioxidant-rich green tea because of its healthful benefits, making it the most appealing flavor for hot or iced tea.
