District of Columbia, Mary Cheh, vending machine bill, vending machine food restrictions, vending business, vending machine business
WASHINGTON, DC -- District of Columbia councilmember Mary Cheh is introducing a bill that would regulate the types of snacks offered in the estimated 4,000 vending machines operating in municipal and federal facilities in the nation's capital.
The vending restrictions are part of the broader workplace-wellness bill that would require a fitness plan for all city workers that would encourage them to take exercise breaks and eat healthier food while in the office.
"A well-structured workplace-wellness program can reduce health costs, improve morale and productivity, and improve employee recruitment and retention," Cheh said. "As we fight a citywide obesity epidemic, the District government can be a leader in improving the health of our workforce."
