NEW YORK CITY -- iCondom is partnering with MTV's Staying Alive foundation to provide the largest condom distribution map of its kind. The map, which is available as a free iPhone or iPod app, uses GPS software to pinpoint the condom vender or retail nearest to the user.
Using a technique known as "crowd sourcing," the app is based on data uploaded by users to provide precise locations, whether products are sold through venders or traditional retail outlets and store hours. It reportedly can provide "out of order" data for venders.
Staying Alive is an MTV international initiative that encourages HIV prevention, promotes safer lifestyle choices, and fights the stigma and discrimination that surrounds the HIV epidemic. Staying Alive is now the world's largest HIV mass media awareness and prevention campaign. It produces TV programming in the form of concerts, documentaries, public service announcements and film. It also boasts a 13-language website with celebrity content talking about safe sex.
