Pyramid’s New Curve Deters Bill Acceptor Scams

Pyramid" MESA, AZ -- New from Pyramid Technologies Inc. is an antitheft bill validator that the manufacturer said will deter the most innovative thieves. Named for the shape of its bill path, the Curve's elongated chute makes "stringing" or "fishing" scams virtually impossible.

According to Pyramid, the typical validator's pathway is only the length of a banknote, which allows criminals to fashion a variety of simple yet ingenious devices to retrieve the bill after it's fed into the payment unit. To disable these tampering tricks, the Curve's acceptance path was designed to be longer than a U.S. banknote (roughly 1.5x).

The Curve is based on the company's Trilogy, a stackerless bill validator and acceptor. Standard features include 12v. DC power, illuminated arrows around the bezel, onboard pushbutton diagnostics with LED readout, automatic calibration and bill acceptance widths up to 85mm. Like all Pyramid acceptors, the Curve supports such PC functions as flash updates and advanced diagnostics, and can be programmed for setup using a configuration card.

Pyramid's David Mays reports that the methodology of thieves targeting vending and amusement machines has improved, and theft has grown during the current recession. "You wouldn't believe some of the things people come up with," he said. "The Curve provides a low-cost acceptor with added security to the operator."

The Curve, which is geared for amusement and vending equipment, will be available this month. Call Pyramid at (408) 507-0088.
