BUFFALO, NY -- Since the 1950s, coin-op kiddie ride designs and themes have mirrored national children's fads. Pony rides and chuck wagons prevailed in the early '50s, when Westerns were popular on television, at the movies and in literature. As the 1950s came to a close, America's space program got off the ground, science fiction programming expanded, and, appropriately, spaceships became the preferred rides.

Now Barron Games International is paying homage to coin-op's classic spacecraft replicas in its latest kiddie ride offering. Barron's new Retro Rocket sports nostalgic blue, red and yellow gel-coat colors, along with a two-passenger format (each side with its own steering wheel and push-button sound effects).

Additional features include a heavy-duty fiberglass body, U.S.-made electronics, LED attract lighting and 24V. motor (operates on 110 or 220 voltages) that powers smooth side-to-side intergalactic motion. Music, pricing and ride times are operator programmable. The CE-listed Retro Rocket measures 80" long by 53" wide by 42" high. It weighs 230 lbs., and its occupancy load is 200 lbs.
