SPRINGFIELD, IL -- The Illinois Gaming Board said that its central computer system is ready, and that video lottery terminals have been installed in dozens of locations. The Illinois video lottery, serviced by independent operators, could roll out by Labor Day.

An IGB spokesman said the gaming board will test VLTs in five sites for a two-week period. If the results are good, the central system will then be activated for all licensed locations.

So far, 89 locations have been licensed for video lottery terminals, which could run up to 445 games in total. Eventually, the Illinois VLT market could expand to an installed base of 75,000 games. | SEE STORY

In related news, the Chicago Tribune has published a comprehensive list of hundreds of Illinois jurisdictions and their legal status for VLT operation.
