Paul Corey COLUMUS, OH -- Paul A. Corey, the longtime executive of the Ohio Coin Machine Association and champion of the amusements industry, died on Dec. 11. He was 87.

Corey graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1949 and moved to Cleveland where he taught and served as president of the Cleveland Teachers Union while earning his master's degree from Case Western Reserve University.

He went on to serve as director of the Ohio Department of State Personnel. In 1973, he became the first civilian chosen by a U.S. president to serve as director of the Ohio Selective Service System.

In 1975, he left government service and established PACA Inc., a firm specializing in government relations and association management. He was later appointed to the Ohio Expositions Commission & State Fair where he served for 17 years.

Corey was struck with polio when he was a year old and, at age seven, received one of the world's first successful muscle transplants. Doctors said he would never walk, but he was only confined to a wheelchair during the last year of his life.

He was predeceased by his wife, Marie Antoinette Cercek, and is survived by his children, Denis and David and Janet C. (Jeffrey) Hawk, and four grandchildren. David is the current director of OCMA.
