GARDEN CITY, NY -- Canteen Vending Services, a division of Compass Group North America, has acquired Coffee Distributing Corp., a leading office coffee service company in the New York, New Jersey and Connecticut Tri-State area owned and operated by chief executive Bob Friedman and his family. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
CDC, which employs nearly 300 people who serve some 20,000 customers, will maintain its name and continue to operate from its two existing facilities in Garden City Park, NY, and Union, NJ, according to Compass Group.
CDC was founded in 1963 by Bob's father, Samuel, and his uncle, Louis Friedman, as a provider of equipment and supplies for in-office coffee breaks. Bob joined the family business in 1976, eventually assuming the helm of the operation and joined by his son, Alex.
Bob Friedman and CDC have received numerous honors over the years, including "Operator of the Year" from the National Automatic Merchandisers Association. Bob was twice a finalist for Ernst & Young's Entrepreneur of the Year Award and CDC has been named to the KPMG list of the Top 50 Private Long Island Companies.
Canteen provides nationwide vending and office coffee service to 18,500 locations through a 200-branch network of company and franchise locations in 48 states.
