WATERBURY, VT -- Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc. has reached an agreement with ConAgra Foods Inc. to make the food giant's legendary Swiss Miss hot cocoa available in K-Cup portion packs for Keurig single-cup brewing systems. Swiss Miss K-Cups, made with real milk and premium imported cocoa, will be sold only to the home market.
Green Mountain, based here, is also relaunching Café Escapes, a line of indulgent dairy-based beverages in K-Cup portion packs geared to adult consumers. Green Mountain officials explained that the Café Escapes line, sold in both the away-from-home and home channels, is better suited to the office environment, while the Swiss Miss brand targets family consumers.
Café Escapes varieties include café mocha, chai latte, milk chocolate and dark chocolate. The Vermont roaster will also continue to offer hot chocolate in K-Cups under the Green Mountain brand in all market segments.
Reading, MA-based Keurig was founded in 1992 and became a subsidiary of Green Mountain Coffee Roasters in 2006. Keurig machines brew a cup of coffee, or prepare other hot beverages, using a K-Cup, a single-serving unit that holds grounds, or other brew material. Keurig holds a significant market presence in North America; it claims 2.5 million beverages dispensed daily (about 6% of all coffee) and 200,000 office installations.
