MELROSE PARK, IL -- New from Stern Pinball is the X-Men pinball machine, based on the popular Marvel comic book series. The new game is the latest Stern flipper game with a comic-book theme, joining the company's fondly remembered Spider-Man, Iron Man and Batman pieces.
The new X-Men game invites players to help assemble their favorite X-Men superheroes to do battle with a rogues' gallery of supervillains. The forces of evil include Magneto's minions Juggernaut, The Brotherhood of Mutants, The Hellfire Club, Shadow King, Sabertooth, Sentinels and Omega Red. Molded Magneto and Wolverine figures are prominent playfield features, and the game incorporates a launcher for the Blackbird hypersonic airplane. Special game modes relate to the most exciting events in the X-Men universe.
Conceived by Marvel's Stan Lee, the first X-Men comic was published in 1963. Stern Pinball president and chief executive Gary Stern observed that the compelling narratives and dynamic cast of characters have built a strong, loyal following for the cycle over almost half a century. "The X-Men pinball machine celebrates Stan's much-loved series and brings fans a whole new adventure, right at their fingertips," the company founder said.
Stern's new X-Men is offered in Pro and Limited Edition versions. The suggested retail price of the Pro model is $5,699; MSRP for X-Men LE is $7,999.
X-Men continues the Stern family tradition of producing coin-op pinball machines for game enthusiasts of all ages. The company traces its origin to Philadelphia in the 1930s, when Sam Stern began operating pinball games, then in their infancy (flippers had not yet been invented). He passed his lifelong enthusiasm for the game and the business of pinball to his son Gary.
