CHINO HILLS, CA -- A joint venture between Hormel Foods Corp. and Mexican food company Herdez Del Fuerte S.A. has agreed to buy Don Miguel Mexican Foods from private-equity firm TSG Consumer Partners LLC for an undisclosed sum. The deal, spearheaded by joint venture MegaMex Foods LLC, is expected to close in October.

Don Miguel, founded over 100 years ago, is a leading provider of frozen and fresh Mexican appetizers, snacks and handheld items, many of which are sold through vending machines. It was acquired by TSG Consumer Partners in 2002. The company has a manufacturing and distribution center in the Dallas area.

Founded in October 2009, MegaMex Foods offers foods and ingredients under prominent Mexican brands including Chi-Chi's, Doña María, La Victoria and El Torito.
