SAN JOSE, CA -- New from Radicom Research is the WiFiHU series of wireless modems, designed to add wireless connectivity to most processor-based devices. The modems feature a USB 2.0 interface and support the latest local-area wireless standards, including IEEE 802.11b, g and n ("WiFi").

According to the manufacturer, the new modems can attain over-the-air data throughput as fast as 300Mbps downstream (receive) and 150 Mbps upstream (transmit) with 40 MHz bandwidth (or half those speeds with 20 MHz bandwidth), using multiple-input, multiple-output (MIMO) antenna technology and a reliable protocol stack. They operate in the 2.4 GHz frequency band.

Designed for industrial OEM use, Radicom's new WiFiHU modems offer -40°C to +85°C extended operating temperatures in a small footprint, and are supplied with WEP/WPA/WPA2 security protocols to protect the host. Firmware/configuration parameters are stored in onboard nonvolatile RAM, and the modems are engineered for low overall power consumption.

The WiFiHU series is available in two in two models: WiFiHU-a and WiFiHU-c. WiFiHU-a has dual-chip antennas built in, which speeds up RF development and shortens time to market. WiFiHU-c is equipped with two U.FL connectors for attaching the user's choice of antenna cables and antennas, giving OEM engineers the flexibility to place antennas in locations best suited to their designs.

The new modems measure only 1” x 1.1" and are 0.25" high. They are compatible with USB2.0 and USB 1.1 host controllers, and feature fast receiver automatic gain control. They support WEP (wired equivalent privacy) and the new Wi-Fi protected access (WPA and WPA2) security protocols. LED driver outputs are supplied, for visual monitoring of link and wireless activity. The modems support Microsoft Windows 7, Vista, Windows XP and Windows 2000 as well as Linux 2.4 and 2.6. They are said to comply with RohS (restriction of hazardous substances) requirements.

The WiFiHU series is aimed at developers of embedded systems requiring wireless connectivity, point-of-sale equipment and handheld devices, IP cameras, set-top boxes and medical devices, and users seeking a replacement for network cabling. Custom OEM specifications and private labeling are offered. Both models cost $19 in quantities of 1,000.

Founded in 1993, Radicom Research develops simple-to-implement dialup and wireless modems, and specializes in designing and manufacturing embedded modem modules for OEMs. Information may be had by calling (408) 383-9006 x112 or faxing to (408) 383-9007.
