BITTNER VENDING ACQUIRES HOUSER VENDING IN WESTERN PA
BERLIN, PA - Bittner Vending, headquartered here, has acquired Houser Vending (State College, PA), which operates seven routes in western Pennsylvania. Houser Vending was a subsidiary of Baltimore, MD-based Insurance Inc. Bittner Vending's Kim Bittner reported that the addition of Houser's vending business "fits right into" the company's strategic expansion plans. "We are very excited about this market," Bittner said. The transaction was facilitated by Tom and Matt Tarantelli of The Taran Corp. (Rochester, NY).
MCDONALD'S PULLS PLUG ON REDBOXES
WASHINGTON, DC , McDonald's experiment with the Redbox coin-op vending system has been terminated. The fast food giant, in the midst of restructuring, decided to shut down all four Redboxes in the Washington, DC, area, reported various news outlets. A joint project between American and Belgian firms, the 18-foot wide Redbox, also known as the "Tik Tok Easy Shop," was a revamped version of similar units found in Europe and Japan, and was even heralded as a breakthrough invention by Time Magazine for 2002. The devices sold a wide rage of groceries, dry goods and fresh food. McDonald's also reported that its 12 automated video kiosks remain online and operating at their respective McDonald's locations.
