Oct. 25, 2003: Co-Located AMOA International Expo, Fun Expo Rescheduled

ITASCA, IL - The Executive Committee of the Amusement and Music Operators Association voted on October 24 , for the second time in a month , to move next year's AMOA convention and trade show to new dates. The latest slot , Tuesday, Sept. 30 through Thursday, Oct. 2 , is one week earlier than the recently announced schedule of Oct. 7-9. Fun Expo will also run Sept. 30-Oct. 2 as a co-located event at the Las Vegas Convention Center (NV), as it has done for several years now. The latest date change was made in part at the urging of Fun Expo's majority owner, the International Association for the Leisure and Entertainment Industry.

Informed sources said the latest date change offers numerous advantages. Among them: the earlier date avoids a schedule conflict with a water parks show; adds more time between the AMOA/Fun Expo events and the IAAPA "Parks Show; creates more breathing room for distributor open houses; and may help avoid perceived conflicts with next fall's European expositions.

The 2004 AMOA/Fun Expo trade shows had originally been scheduled for Sept. 16-18. In early October, AMOA leaders rebooked for Oct. 7-9 after learning the original mid-September dates conflicted with the Jewish holidays. But the early October dates also drew criticism. An Oct. 7-9 show would have clashed with the annual exposition of the World Waterpark Association. A few overseas show organizers also fretted that AMOA's proposed October dates would make it difficult for scarce prototypes of Japanese video games to shuttle around the globe in time to make Europe's fall show season. AMOA can be contacted at tel. (800) 937-2662.
