NAMA Expands Education Services, Sets Agenda For 2007 Spring Expo

CHICAGO — The National Automatic Merchandising Association has announced the inauguration of an internship program, under which operator members are invited to offer intern positions to college students majoring in hospitality, vending or food marketing at a NAMA University Partner school. LyNae Schleyer, NAMA’s senior director of education and meeting services, hailed the latest step in the association’s strategic initiative to establish reciprocally beneficial ties with the academic world as “a win-win chance for employers and bright college students.” She explains the program in detail in the January issue on Page 18.

NAMA also has firmed up plans for the Spring Expo, slated for the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas, NV from April 10 through 13 (Tuesday through Friday). The move to the spacious Mandalay Bay marks the first time the show, conference and most social events will be held under one roof since the last Western Convention in the Ambassador Hotel (Los Angeles) in 1969.

Tuesday and Wednesday will be devoted to separate in-depth training sessions for which separate registration is required. These include the Supervisors Development Program, which will start on Tuesday and run for all four days of the Expo. On Wednesday, the NAMA Western Golf Classic will tee up at 11:00 AM. Added-value educational programming will include the Quality Coffee Certification Program, set for 8:00 AM to 4:45 PM, and the acclaimed Category Management Seminar from 12:30 to 5:00 PM.

The formal education program gets under way at 8:30 AM on Thursday, April 12, with an Opening Session at 8:30 AM. The trade show opens at 10:00 AM and closes at 5:00 PM, and the eagerly-awaited supplier-hosted Spring Fling will break out at 5:00 PM, running until 6:30 PM.

Four concurrent education sessions are slated for Friday morning before the trade show reopens at 10:00 AM; it will close at 5:00 PM.

State Council Support: The National Automatic Merchandising Association is approaching the milestone of $1 million in financial support sent back to its affiliated State Councils, according to Tom McMahon, vice-president and chief counsel. Launched in 1992, the program maintains a pool, funded by NAMA dues, which is allocated to the State Councils proportionally to the number of NAMA operator members in each state.
