Amelia 'Millie' McCarthy Dies At 97

HURLEYVILLE, NY -- Amelia "Millie" McCarthy, a pioneering operator of music and games, died on Feb. 10. She was 97.

McCarthy, who ran Catskill Amusements Inc. (Hurleyville) and Binghamton Amusement Co., was a steadfast advocate on many coin-op legislative issues. She was also the first woman to serve as a director of the Amusement and Music Operators Association (Chicago), and was president of the New York State Coin Machine Association for many years. Outside of the coin machine industry, McCarthy was known as a champion of women's rights.

McCarthy is survived by sons, Robert (Beverly) of Sidney, NY, Victor (Ginger) of Hurleyville, NY; daughters, Kathleen (Gordon) Markham of Sun Lakes, AZ, and Nancy McCarthy-Lawson of San Anselmo, CA; and five grandchildren
and seven great-grandchildren.
