DAVIDSON COUNTY, NC -- N.C. Superior Court Judge Robert Johnson ruled against International Internet Technologies LLC and a local operator on Feb. 4 to clear the way for police to enforce North Carolina's ban on sweepstakes videogames.
The ban, passed by the state Legislature in 2010, was upheld by the state Supreme Court on Dec. 14. | SEE STORY
Following the high court's ruling, IIT and its fellow plaintiff sued the state's governor, attorney general and other officials.
Attorneys for other sweepstakes operators and manufacturers, as well as law enforcement officials from across the state, were present to hear the judge announce his verdict, said local news outlets. | SEE STORY
IIT said it is distributing new software that it believes complies with the ban because sweepstakes outcomes are not portrayed with videogame or slot machine simulations as part of the reveal phase.
