ST. PAUL, MN -- Profit Minnesota, the lobbying organization for pro-VLT bar owners, unveiled a gambling legalization bill and staged a rally at the state Capitol building here on April 26.
The bill would give bars the right to have electronic bingo, electronic pull-tabs and video slot machines. Supporters said legalization would yield $230 million a year for charities and $630 million in annual state tax revenues.
VENDING TIMES reported in October that Profit Minnesota's website lists "machine operators" as potential beneficiaries of its bill. But the Minnesota Operators of Music and Amusements is not listed as supporters. | SEE STORY
Minnesota already has extensive gambling in Indian casinos. Bars are permitted to host paper pull-tab machines, but tavern owners say public enthusiasm for these devices has fallen off sharply.
State lawmakers said they face a $5 billion budget deficit for their next two-year budget.
