Just Photos Readies Launch Of Self-Service Imaging Device

MISSION VIEJO, CA (July 2007) — Following a two-year worldwide test, the new Just Photos self-service photo booth is expected to make its official launch this fall. Just Photos, also the name of the company manufacturing the product, is headed up by photo industry veterans Alberto Caroselli and Jim Henderson, who say they have developed a machine that produces the highest-quality photos in today’s market.

Caroselli and Henderson, both former executives of Photo-Me International, each have more than 30 years experience in the photographic industry. Their combined experience encompasses product development, market research, management and photo booth operations. After analyzing current photo equipment in the marketplace – digital, inkjet and wet process – the pair said they recognized the need for a product that could consistently generate high-quality images.

 Just Photos offers patrons six different poses in a choice of either black and white or color. The 2x2 portrait assortment is delivered on 4x6 photographic stock. The photo booth can also be programmed to produce passport photos or six frames of the same pose. The company will be marketing the machine in both fun photo and ID utility formats.

The machine’s digital imaging system employs an eight mega-pixel Canon camera and state-of-the-art dye sublimation photo printer. It features a 15-in. color monitor, used to display instructions to customer, and is powered by a Pentium-based CPU. The booth itself measures 57 ins. wide x 29 ins. deep x 71 ins. high and is constructed of sturdy, lightweight steel.

“The Just Photos booth was designed with the U.S. market in mind,” Caroselli reported. “And the photo quality is without a doubt the best in the world. We believe our product will help restore consumer confidence in photo booths.”

Caroselli explained that better-quality photos could only be produced when the camera, printer and lighting functions are integrated correctly to work in a photo booth application. “We studied lighting for years to try to emulate studio portraits,” he said. “With Just Photos, we are able to control the lighting environment, and this is one of the biggest challenges for any photo booth manufacturer.”

Just Photos, according to Caroselli, employs the correct balance flash tubes and number of firing flashes to create the optimal photographic conditions. The patented flash system was designed to eliminate blurred photos and shadows.

In the dye sublimation printing process, continuous stretches of ink are laid down, compared to regular inkjet printers that spray dots from tiny jets. The result is clear, sharp and colorful output. Just Photos is outfitted with a model designed to yield 100,000 photos before requiring service. It holds 500 sheets. A second printer can be installed for “event” capacity of 1,000.

The photo industry veteran said the unit’s simple design makes it easy for patrons to use; they only need to insert money, pose for six photos and wait for their photo strip. Patron operation requires using just two buttons: one to select black and white photography, the other for color. The standard photo booth prompt “3-2-1 smile” tells the patron to pose; there are 3.5 seconds between each photo; and the finished photo sheet is delivered in about 12 seconds. To keep an element of surprise, the patron’s poses are not shown on the monitor, preserving the photo booth’s classic mirror concept.
