EASTVILLE, MD -- A Maryland man who was part of a national crime ring that burglarizes beverage vending machines has pled guilty to breaking into machines and stealing cash from them.

James Tyson, 57, of Severna Park, MD, was convicted of grand larceny and awaits sentencing after the court receives information on sentencing guidelines for the crime.

Attorney Bruce Jones, who is prosecuting the case, recounted the events that led to Tyson's arrest to the Northampton Circuit Court. He said Tyson and another man entered the visitor's center at Maryland's Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel after hours. One of the accused thieves reportedly moved the surveillance camera out of view of vending machines operated by the Coca-Cola Co. The other man allegedly stole an estimated $800 to $1,000 from the venders, using lock-picking tools.

Jones told the court that Tyson was part of a larger ring of thieves across the country who make a career of stealing from vending machines.
