ZAVENTUM, Belgium -- A Pepsi vending machine here dispensed a free can of soda in exchange for a Facebook "like" for concert-goers attending the Belgium leg of Beyoncé's world tour.
Concert fans could connect to the Pepsi "Like" Vending Machine using their smartphones or the machine's touchscreen interface. Once connected, the vending machine directed consumers to "like" Pepsi's page using their Facebook accounts to receive a free can of Pepsi or Pepsi MAX.
PepsiCo said the innovative sampling approach gave the company the opportunity to interact with its consumers and insight into who "liked" and tried its products.
The beverage giant said it plans to use the technology at future Pepsi events in Belgium.
