Cuomo's $2M Marketing Plan Uses Vending Machines To Promote New York-Made Foods And Drinks

ALBANY, NY -- Gov. Andrew Cuomo wants vending machines to play a big role in his proposed $2 million plan to help food and beverage companies in upstate New York market their products to consumers in the densely populated New York City region.

Called "Taste-NY," the marketing effort would include "next-generation luxury vending machines" at state-owned facilities that would sell New York state-made products like Greek yogurt, which has seen huge growth in the state in recent years. The vended snacks and drinks would be sold tax-free to consumers, according to the governor's budget proposal.

The initiative would also promote New York-made products on displays in high-traffic areas like highway rest areas, train stations and airports. There would also be Taste-NY branded retail stores, food carts and more. The Taste-NY plan would be funded through a $1 million state grant to be matched by $1 million from the industry, according to news reports.
