MOSCOW — Organizers of the Self-Service Exhibition are preparing the third staging of the convention and trade show. SSE 2008 is set for December 3 through 5 in Pavilion 3 of the ultramodern Crocus Expo International Exhibition Center here.
The event, which is organized by Uniexpo Ltd., is designed to showcase the latest vending and kiosk technology. Last year, it drew 110 exhibitors and more than 5,000 visitors, roughly twice as many exhibitors and four times the number of visitors as the first show in 2006.
Self-service retailing of products and services is growing rapidly in Russia. Although merchandise vending has a long and interesting history here, as of 2006 there were fewer than 15,000 vending machines and 50,000 terminals (ATMs and similar devices) on location. By the end of 2007, the number of vending machines had doubled, and cash machines alone had increased to more than 80,000. In many nations, self-service now accounts for 5% to 10% of all retail transactions, and some experts predict that Russia will attain that level within the next three to five years.
SSE 2008 will consist of two concurrent collocated shows, one dedicated to vending and the other to terminals. New this year will be a section devoted specifically to vendible products, ranging from beverages through confections, snacks, baked goods and food. At the terminal show, a new banking equipment section will showcase the latest in payment automation and related bank self-service technologies.
