Tim Jackson, Longtime Industry Sales Pro, Dies At 45

TORRANCE, CATim Jackson, who served in several senior level marketing posts for various amusement machine manufacturers, died on November 12 in the intensive care unit of Harbor UCLA Medical Center here; he was 45. A 23-year industry veteran, Jackson reportedly had been fighting liver disease and kidney problems. Jackson brought his effervescent personality and bulldog determination to top sales posts at SNK America, Capcom and Romstar during the video game heyday. In the past decade, he served as national sales director at Planet Earth, Apple Industries, Wedges/Ledges and Five Star Redemption. His last industry post was a brief sojourn with T.D. Rowe, a nationwide operating company headquartered in Houston. Jackson is survived by five siblings and one daughter. Plans for services will be announced later this week; condolences may be sent to Kevin and Jodi Brooks, 8201 Bryant Dr., Huntington Beach, CA 92647.

Lou Perfidio, Former VT Editor, And Terry Horan, InterGame Sales Manager, Die

 

PHILADELPHIA and LONDON — Lou Perfidio, music and games editor at VENDING TIMES from 1990 to 1991, died November 7 from heart disease. He was 43. A freelance writer in recent years, Perfidio was best known for a humorous Web blog that focused on the joys and woes of the Phillies baseball team. Overseas, InterGame magazine general sales manager Terry Horan died suddenly on November 10. He was 49. Colleagues described him as a charismatic man who had become well known in the industry in the past three years after attending many of international trade events.

Arizona Operators Form State Association

 

SCOTTDALE, AZThe Machine Operators of Arizona held its opening meeting here on November 9, according to the Amusement and Music Operators Association. The inaugural meeting was attended by Kris Gilmore of Troy Vending (Phoenix) and Thomas Yario and J.R. Schmitz of Global Entertainment Group (Scottsdale), along with part-time Scottsdale resident and AMOA past-president Jim Stansfield of Stansfield Vending (La Crosse, WI). More than a decade ago, Stansfield chaired AMOA’s state organization committee and led the first Council of Affiliated States meeting. The Arizona association said it would hold a second meeting in December.

IALEI To Co-Produce “Code Adam” Video; Seeks 2007 Speakers

 

HERSHEY, PA — The International Association for the Leisure & Entertainment Industry is assisting the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children to expand its Code Adam program. A nationally recognized program, Code Adam teaches employees how to respond when a child is reported missing in a public location. Retail stores have utilized NCMEC training kits to teach employees six steps to follow when a parent reports that they cannot locate their child. The steps range from obtaining a detailed description of the child and his/her clothing to paging the Code Adam telephone alert line. IALEI is seeking industry sponsors to help fund the filming of a new instructional video that is geared to leisure and family entertainment centers.

 

Separately, IALEI is looking for speakers to present at the 2007 Fun Academy, the educational component of Fun Expo, which will be held in Las Vegas from September 24 to 29. AAMA Begins Lining Up PR Team; Sets 2007 Gala Dates

 

ELK GROVE VILLAGE, ILThe American Amusement Machine Association said it is offering a new member benefit through logo marketing specialist Wow! Marketing Inc. AAMA members will be offered package discounts on promotional products, tradeshow giveaways and corporate premium programs. Leslie Murphy To Exit AMOA National Dart Association

 

INDIANAPOLIS — After nine years as executive director of the AMOA’s National Dart Association, Leslie Murphy will depart from the organization and her concurrent post as executive director for the Indiana AMOA. Her official departure is planned at the year’s end. Murphy will head a new consulting division at Raybourn Group International, an association management firm. NDA’s executive committee praised Murphy for her energy, professionalism and “countless contributions,” saying she leaves the 292-member NDA in “solid shape.” AMOA said NDA transition and hiring strategies are underway.

AMOA Plans To Visit New Congress Next Spring

 

WASHINGTON, DC — The Amusement and Music Operators Association announced it will stage a day of meetings between association board members and their respective Congress members in April or May. AMOA’s legislative counsel, Elliott Portnoy, a partner in the law firm representing AMOA and the American Amusement Machine Association, is advising clients that the advent of a Democratic-controlled Congress “requires a complete recalibration of strategic plans at both federal and state levels.” The AMOA website is http://www.amoa.com.

European Court Says Greek Ban Contrary To EC Law

 

ATHENS — Coin-Op News’ Martin Dempsey reports that the European Court has overruled Greece’s 2002 ban on electronic games, saying it violates European Community economic laws. Reported at http://www.coin-opnews.eu, Dempsey said the Greek amusement trade – which virtually shut down under the prohibition – would soon recommence manufacturing, distributing and operating.

TouchTunes Music Corp. has added employee-accessible functionality to certain features of the Operator Dashboard, a Web-based tool that lets operators manage jukebox music and administrative tasks remotely. Operators can set up sub-user accounts and define individual access privileges. Available roles include music manager, money manager and settings manager. Employees granted access to areas of the Dashboard can edit time-of-day settings for individual jukeboxes and settings for music filters, Tune Central availability, light shows, background music mode and others.
