KILDARE, Ireland -- Martin Dempsey, editor and publisher of Coin-Op News Europe, died suddenly this morning following a heart attack. He was 57.
Dempsey was the principal of Kildare, Ireland-based MD Associates, which publishes Coin-Op News and produces AmEx, the annual Irish Gaming and Amusement Trade Exhibition.
The larger-than-life industry figure was also the secretary of the Irish Gaming & Amusement Association, a European representative for numerous trade publications and exhibitions, and a consultant in the gaming and amusement industries. He was a member of the National Union of Journalists, specializing in gaming and amusements, in which he was involved since 1975.
The 30th annual AmEx gets underway next week, March 4-5, at the Green Isle Hotel in Dublin. "As per [Dempsey's] family's wishes, AmEx 2009 will go ahead as planned," according to an announcement. Information about the show is available here.
