ALBANY, NY -- The New York State Automatic Vending Association reports that SB 3445B, an act to amend the tax law to exempt food and beverages sold through vending machines from New York State sales tax up to $1.50, was passed by the State Senate on May 30. The measure will now move on to the Assembly.

The NYSAVA has worked for several years to pass this legislation, and is urging the Assembly to act on it this session.

Association president Brian W. Gill, Next Generation Vending (Canastota, NY), is calling on all industry members to get behind this effort to persuade the Assembly to act. "We ask you to join the NYSAVA board and membership for a conference call on Wednesday, June 6, at 9 a.m.," he emailed the membership.

"We will develop our strategy going forward to ensure this bill passes in the Assembly at the earliest possible date."

The effective date for the legislation to be enacted has been amended to April 1, 2013, to align with the state budget fiscal year.

For more information on Wednesday's 9 a.m. conference call and the association's goings on, email NAMA government affairs manager Pam Gilbert or Next Gen's Brian Gill, who can also be reached at (315) 697-9694.
