Coin Mechanisms DebitKey Unit

GLENDALE HEIGHTS, IL -- Coin Mechanisms Inc. has expanded its line of DebitKey cashless transaction products with the addition of an MDB vending machine key system.

Its unique mounting plate is said to fit directly into the existing bill validator openings on most vending machines for easy retrofit, and includes an MDB harness. The MDB system also allows users to add value to their keys right at vending machines that support MDB level 2 communication.

Coin Mechanisms' DebitKey system is a cashless plastic key-shaped debit carrier with an embedded chip-card integrated circuit. The key can be configured as a stored value medium for use in debit application, or as an intelligent PIN for use in credit applications.

Other DebitKey peripherals include a key reader with optional display; handheld data collection device with either USB interface for PC data collection or Ethernet to a server for online use; and a kiosk for use in dispensing and charging of keys in unattended locations.

Coin Mechanisms Inc. was founded in 1968 by Arlene Pierz. It originally developed mechanical coin acceptors used in amusement games and early mechanical-style slot machines. The company, known as Coin Mech, quickly expanded its product line with steel-access doors and front plates used in arcade games, as well as steel-coin boxes with integrated timers used on kiddie rides. Some of these products were marketed to the coin-op carwash industry. In the 1980s, Coin Mech developed electronic coin validators and reportedly the world's first coin comparitor. In 1993, optical-recognition technology was added to create the "intelligent" comparitor, which validated specially marked gaming tokens. And in 1996, microcomputer control logic enhanced Coin Mech's comparitor even further.
