New from Amusement Technologies is an economical upgrade that can convert legacy CD jukeboxes into state-of-the-art touchscreen digital systems which connect to the Ecast media network. Called Digital Fusion, the upgrade kit consists of Ecast's MoJO core and a central control computer.

Upgrades are currently available for various Rowe CD lines, including the LaserStar models 100-100E, MM series and Encore, along with the factory's second-generation wallboxes, which include the Berkeley and Storm. Upgrades are also offered for NSM's CD wallbox lines.

"Amusement Technologies is always looking for ways to make existing capital work harder," said the company's owner, Dick Donlan. "Ecast's technology made it easy to develop a simple-to-work kit that gives operators a very affordable way to breathe new life into their existing investment."

Amusement Technologies specializes in game conversions. Some of its inventions include the Perfect Solution, a switching kit that allows two videos from Incredible Technologies to run in the same cabinet, and a plug-and-play kit for the Genius Box, a scan converter that can make any low- or medium-resolution video signal compatible with a VGA display. The company is run separately from Donlan's East Coast Amusements, a Canton, MA-based distributor and national service center.

Donlan says Digital Fusion uses Amusement Technologies' universal approach to conversion. The central computer and MoJO core (which is a single module that integrates flat-panel display, power supply, battery backup and coin-op interface, among other components) simplify parts replacement and reduce conversion time.

"Pop out the existing computer core and replace it with Digital Fusion's," he explained. "The connectors all line up beautifully and three additional connectors are used to cable up to the MoJO." He said a Rowe CD-to-digital conversion could be completed in 45 minutes.

The company offers two kit versions for Rowe boxes. The basic kit includes a 15" MoJO capacitive screen, bezel and mounting brackets, central computer and audio connectors. The full kit also includes replacement glass, front plate (in red, blue or gold radial patterns) and other graphics to finish the transformation. One version is available for an NSM update. It includes the same main components in the basic Rowe kit, along with bill acceptor components, interior replacement parts, AVC board and decorative trim. A 900W. Crown amplifier with quick-release mounting brackets is optional.

"Dick Donlan's name stands for quality service and smart business," said Ecast vice-president of network operations Scott Walker, who predicts widespread adoption of Digital Fusion within the operating community. "As an industry innovator in his own right, he shares our forward-thinking philosophy. He's one of our top distributors and now we are honored to have him join us as a manufacturing partner."
