WASHINGTON -- Vagabond has released a remote machine monitoring system for vending equipment. The company reports that its new Wi-Fi Insight telemetry hardware is the first in a line of economical telemetry products; other products will be introduced in the coming months.
According to Vagabond, the launch of its Insight system enables the company to offer an integrated business management platform affordable enough to equip the majority of machines. Wi-Fi Insight offers another option for linking their machines to a Vagabond account.
"Live sales data [were] previously only available through integration with third-party POS terminals," Vagabond explained. The company also plans to release cellular Insight versions that will provide Vagabond's customers with additional options to manage their machines.
Insight telemetry hardware is said to be compatible with most vending machines and easy to install; it begins to send live sales data within minutes. The Wi-Fi Insight uses a location's wireless network to deliver the updated sales information to Vagabond's servers in real time, to update the customer's mobile and Web account.
Vagabond Wi-Fi Insights is reported to cost substantially less -- up to 75% -- over three years than traditional telemetry options; the company states that Vagabond customers can recoup their investments within the first year by using Vagabond VMS software. The software helps them reduce labor requirements by as much as 25% by ensuring machines are visited only when they need to be. It can minimize theft by providing transparent cash accountability, and it can increase revenue as much as 10% by more accurately matching product selections with the specific tastes of each machine's customer base.
Vagabond developed the new proprietary hardware to address customer requests for lower cost real-time telemetry devices that allow them to take advantage of labor and inventory savings across their operation. Vagabond president Juan Jorquera explained, "Operators with less than 1,000 machines want the Vagabond solution to manage their entire business, but can generally only afford credit card readers on up to 20% of their machines."
When it doesn't make sense to purchase credit-card readers for a majority of the venders in the field, using the Vagabond system can extend live views to all equipment, whether or not it's equipped for cashless vending.
New Insight hardware can be reserved by visiting vagabondvending.com/insight. Because of early demand, Vagabond currently reports a four-week waiting list for the Wi-Fi model. Insight units will be shipped in the order in which they are reserved.
In addition to the Wi-Fi Insight available today, Vagabond is taking preorders for its CDMA cellular counterpart, which will start shipping in early 2014.
