WASHINGTON -- Americans for George, a pro-dollar bill lobbying organization, has apparently shut down operations after making a big splash in the nation's capital back in March.
AFG's spokesman has been released, its website is dark and its Twitter account has been closed, according to a story on the news website Politico.
A rival lobbying group, the Dollar Coin Alliance, remains active. A DCA spokesman speculated that Americans for George might also have been reluctant to be exposed as representing the special interest of a single major member. Politico suggested that the website blackout might be a cost-cutting move.
Dalton, MA-based Crane & Co., the sole supplier of cotton-based paper for U.S. banknotes, was allegedly the main source of funds for the pro-dollar bill group.
Several relevant bills are currently circulating in Congress. Some would eliminate the dollar bill in favor of dollar coins, while others would implement the opposite policy. | Visit vendingtimes.com.
