SEATTLE -- The celebrated purveyor of novelty merchandise, Archie McPhee & Co., is marketing a variety of gumballs in unexpected flavors. Bacon, roast beef, wasabi, absinthe, pickles and eggnog are among the selections; variety packs include a baseball-themed potpourri, including gumballs in hot dog, peanut and beer flavors.
Seasonal assortments also appear from time to time. For Thanksgiving, the company developed turkey, cranberry and pumpkin-pie-flavored gum.
The company is famous for its wide spectrum of novelties ranging from classics like rubber chickens to such innovations as backwards (counterclockwise) wall clock, and much more. It also markets a range of conversation-starting confectionery items extending well beyond gum.
The food-and beverage-flavored gumballs are packed in 1.4-oz. tins. No plans are reported to supply in bulk vending, but those who are in the ball gum business may think of promotional uses for them.
