SAN FRANCISCO -- Google Wallet is now available for iPhones.

The app doesn't support in-store payments, since Apple's iPhone does not incorporate an NFC chip. Instead, Google Wallet users can use the application to send money through Gmail attachments, and to store credit and debit card data to simplify online shopping. They can also access loyalty programs and redeem offers on location by using the application.

Google Wallet's arrival on the iPhone came a few days after a similar version was released to smartphones running on Google's Android system. It competes with Apple's Passbook, which is built into the iPhone's operating system and offers similar functions.
