PHILADELPHIA -- Aramark Corp. has unveiled a wellness and nutrition education program for schools as part of its commitment to first lady Michelle Obama's "Let's Move!" campaign against childhood obesity. The foodservice giant said its goal is to create healthier school environments through nutritious menus, wellness education and parental resource materials, along with health mascots and fairs, and school events.
School menus in the "Healthy for Life" program will have more fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lean protein choices, lowfat and nonfat dairy options, 100% fruit juice and water.
The program builds on earlier Aramark initiatives for its schools that have undertaken to reduce added fats, sugar and salt; eliminate added trans fat; offer nutrient-dense snacks; source high quality, local produce and products; and promote and expand the availability of breakfast.
