CAROLINA SHORES, NC -- Vending distribution pioneer James (Jim) Frye died here on April 9. He was 79.

Frye was born in 1931 and graduated from the University of Illinois. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict. Soon after separating from the service, he began a career in the new coin machine distribution business that would span more than half a century.

Frye held responsible positions with Empire Distributing (Detroit, MI), Brady Distributing (Charlotte, NC), State Sales & Service (Baltimore) and Green Coin Machine (Myrtle Beach, SC), and always worked for the betterment of the coin-operated industries. He retired fully in 2008.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia, and sons, Michael (who serves as sales vice-president for Southeastern Vending Services in Charlotte) and Steve.

Funeral arrangements are scheduled for 12 noon on Friday, April 15, in Weddington, NC.
