NEW YORK CITY -- Robert Nelson has left the National Coffee Association after leading the trade group as president and chief executive for two decades.

NCA chairman John Boyle said Nelson plans to "pursue his passion for association governance and strategy development." Nelson remains available to NCA's board of directors to assist in a smooth transition, once his successor is chosen.

"Robert has guided our association from its most formative stages and led us into the 21st century with exceptional foresight, vision and leadership," Boyle said.

Former NCA board chairman Dub Hay will serve as interim president and chief executive.

The National Coffee Association of USA was founded in 1911. It is the earliest association for the U.S. coffee industry, and is one of the oldest trade groups in the country. Its membership comprises coffee growers, roasters, retailers, importers and exporters, and wholesalers.
